The ‘Victoria Street Environmental Improvements’ work which was completed in May 2008 was the first major renaissance project and involved pedestrianisation of the whole of Victoria Street West, the Bull Ring and Old Market Place in Grimsby town centre.
The improvements, which were carried out by North East Lincolnshire Council with support from the Greater Grimsby Renaissance Partnership, Yorkshire Forward, the European Regional Development Fund and the Grimsby Town Centre Forum, included new paving, lighting, a water feature, public art, seating and Wi-Fi internet access.

Street Design Award
National recognition of the transformation of Victoria Street was received when the project was ‘highly commended’ in the Pedestrian Environment category of the Local Government News Street Design Awards 2009. The award follows hot on the heels of the street’s commendation from the British Council of Shopping Centres Town Centre Environment Awards received in June 2009.
