Grimsby town centre has an enormous asset in the shape of Alexandra Dock, the Riverhead and the River Freshney.
There are many examples of towns and cities both in the UK and abroad who successfully integrate their docks and riversides into the heart of their town centres and use them to their full potential. Alexandra Dock West provides the opportunity to make a major impact in the town centre and provide an ‘anchor’ to encourage future investment in this area so that in the coming years the whole of the Alexandra Dock area can be redeveloped. The town’s urban waterfront is largely neglected so the regeneration plans clearly focus attention on this under utilised asset. For example a waterside park is proposed to complement new physical developments with extra green space which the town centre in general lacks.

prime site for new office space
The Alexandra Dock area is somewhat cut off from the rest of the town centre at the moment but with innovative solutions this can be turned into a prominent town centre location. To begin this process the Alexandra Dock West area has been identified as a prime site for new office space coupled with new public facilities including a new library with the potential for arts, cultural space and community facilities. Coupled with urban realm works such as the waterside park and new connections to the Riverhead Square this project will be a major statement about confidence in the town centre which can help encourage further investment. It will help to set the quality benchmark for other developments along the waterside and within the rest of the town centre.
