what is renaissance?
Renaissance is all about the feel of a place - creating an atmosphere that people will enjoy and making them want to use that location. It’s about local people being involved in creating high quality public spaces, in Grimsby the focus is on achieving this in the town centre to make it a great destination for everyone and for every use. We need as many people as possible to get involved to influence and change the design of our town – call us, email us or drop into the Renaissance Shop at 33 Victoria Street and tell us what you think about the town centre and the regeneration plans.
what is the vision for grimsby town centre?
In 2009 we created a ‘Masterplan’ for Grimsby town centre. The Masterplan picks out five key areas of the town centre which need change within the next 25 years - Riverhead Square, Alexandra Dock West, Cartergate, St. James’ Square and Station Approach. Although the Masterplan shows which areas need change, we need you to tell us how what it should look like. We need your help to make Grimsby a great place to live, work, visit and play.
We have set out a 25-year vision for Grimsby to become a town which is an attractive, prosperous and desirable place in which to live, work, visit and play. Regenerating the town centre is vital to this aim, we want to bring extra life and activity by designing and building high quality spaces and making the most of our existing features.
how have we set this vision?
In 2009 consultancy firm EC Harris carried out a major piece of work to develop a ‘Masterplan’ for Grimsby town centre. The aim was to produce a clear strategy for how the town centre area should change over the years to come and identify projects which could help start the process of improvement. But before project ideas can be developed its important to know what we are trying to achieve in the long run and where we want the town to go. Working out the vision is the first step – in Grimsby this is to ‘create a town in which to live, work, invest and play’. The overall aim is simple – making a better town centre environment will encourage greater use by making it more attractive to both people and business.
